PortfolioOLD
Welcome!
This page contains several examples of the design work I have done recently. Unfortunately I am not able to share all of the design work I have done because some is client sensitive. As you are aware this page is password protected because, while I am able to share these examples, it is important that they are not shared publicly or widely as many are still in development and represent revenue generating businesses for Deloitte Consulting.
For many of these examples I was not only responsible for the design, but also defining the total experience, associated business case, and building functional prototypes with HTML/CSS/Javascript/Rails.
My Philosophy
I like to take on complex challenges and solve them with simple and seamless solutions or experiences.
I'm passionate about building great products, businesses, and cultures. I love to play.
I value simplicity, reducing friction, multiple perspectives, and empathy in design. These values allow me to adapt quickly to any project while still maintaining some level of guidance at a personal and project level.
Deloitte XperienceSales (part of a to-be-released UX driven business application platform. Early 2014)
My work here involved creating the sales rep personas, conducting informal interviews and actually designing all the screens included in the gallery below. The application is designed primarily for tablet (iPad) and secondarily for web. I am the sole designer on this project right now while also playing a significant role in shaping the go-to-market strategy and business plan.
I have had the opportunity to informally interview field sales reps that would be using the application in addition to salesforce effectiveness experts who help companies improve their workflows.
This project is a very active work in progress. This gallery represents my most recent iteration through the designs (v1.5).

Flavor 2 (designed to fit slightly different persona at a specific client):

dSNAP - Consumer reverse auction shopping using loyalty points (early 2013)
There was a pre-existing app and concept which was very clunky and convoluted. Users we're confused about what it did and how to find the products they wanted. Taking inspiration from the GILT app, I redesigned the consumer mobile application.
Mobile performance management application (early 2013)
Designed and built for managers to conduct more frequent and accurate evaluations of their talent from their mobile devices. Introduction of the 'micro-evaluation' allowed managers to reference historical comments when completing major evaluations such as mid-year and year-end.
d.Vine - The enterprise talent graph (mid 2013)
The goal with d.Vine was to create a talent graph internal to an enterprise similar to the way LinkedIn functions for the public domain. We focused specifically on using skills and relationship data to improve internal people searches, internal staffing requests, and people analytics. In the case of staffing we emphasize variables such as common colleagues, references, and similar people to make a user searching for another teammate more comfortable that they have found someone awesome.
Deloitte Bridge - An online platform to connect major corporations with the startup ecosystem (Fall 2013)
As one of the originators of this idea I have been asked to design pages for many of the new features we are demoing to clients. In all but one case I was constrained by design themes created by the original design contractor.
Krnl - Ephemeral Collaboration (Late 2013)
There are too many psychological barriers for many people to collaborate consistently using online tools - account set up, logging in, mobile availability, linkages to other services, etc. Enough already.
I designed Krnl to get out of the way, be simple (simpler than its mocked up), and be totally disposable. It can be used by small teams on important projects or just to plan a happy hour. The owner opens up a krnl, adds people and you get working. When you are all done you 'wrap up' the krnl and it's gone.
In the process of building an MVP, created a landing page to get a list of interested beta testers:

First mockup (when i first came up with the concept)
Robert H. Smith School of Business Office of Career Services Tech Handbook
Created application for OCS staff to troubleshoot problems with the technology I installed when I worked there.
VentureBoard
(Currently undergoing complete overhaul)
VentureBoard is a platform for:
1. Students and Entrepreneurs - form teams, stay organized, and build a business
2. Universities and Organizations - manage, track, and advise startup teams
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students and Entrepreneur
- Find team members
- Build and iterate on a business model (with contextual hypothesis testing)
- Access resources and quickly set up accounts (where applicable)
Universities and Organizations:
- Manage startup portfolios and see population insights/anlaytics
- View startups’ progress at a glance
- Know when and how to best help
Watsi Suggestions
The message I sent to them:
Hi - I wanted to run two ideas by you that I was thinking about on my muni ride home this evening. Its very possible you’ve thought of them but no reason not to send over.
1. Watsi credits - allowing the recipient to choose the story/treatement they'd like to contribute to. I quickly threw together a mockup to illustrate how it might look/work (attached).
The one major thing I'd worry about is the credits going unused and thus not helping anyone, but that could probably be controlled for in several ways (e.g after 30 days the amount defaults of the general fund).
2. ‘Pay it forward’ -
Dedications were a great decision and this is one step beyond that. Pay it forward would be a small behavioral cue/feedback loop built into the dedication process where friends can essentially create a chain of giving, one which they can also track and see how it grows. I dedicate a donation to my friend Lizzie and via that notification she ‘pays it forward’ and makes a donation/dedication of her own to one or more additional people and so forth.
Social proof is a powerful trigger and could be huge in an awesome way.
Exceptional Company Research App
Company performance comparison app based on proprietary analysis model (related to this book)
The group that built the analysis model came to us to create an experience for people that want to use it for comparing the performance of various companies over time.
After typing in the first company name a user is shown a 'card' with basic information and important KPI's. to its right is another card where they can select a comparison from the suggestions or search for another company. The concept here was based on the experience someone might have on a video game like Madden where you see team stats side by side as two players are choosing. Once a second company is selected its card is displayed and the comparison graphs are rendered below. Each graph is a time series depicting different metrics and trends which the model focuses on as important (Percentile ranking according to the model, Return on Assets, and a waterfall based on specific categories).
This app was built and functions for internal use.
